Daily Tips Day 552 Bill

How can you get more depth in your paintings? Bill shows us how to add depth to the sky using both size of objects and positioning. Think of your canvas like a dome rather than a flat surface.

Apply this concept and add depth to your paintings.

Points To Consider:

  • The largest clouds are placed at the top of the canvas.
  • The smallest clouds are placed near the horizon.
  • The clouds get smaller as they move to the horizon.
  • Realistically the clouds close to the horizon are the same size as the clouds at the top of the canvas. They just appear smaller because they are further away.
  • Bill didn’t like how much yellow he had in one of his clouds. No worries, he just went back over it with white paint.
  • It is important to wipe your brush after each cloud. As Bill touches the canvas he is picking up the background color in his brush which would tone the clouds down.
