German painter, art instructor, and television host of "The Magic of Oil Painting" on PBS. On his show, Bill Alexander introduced the world to the modern "quick" wet-on-wet oil painting technique – known today as the Alexander Method™

I’m Laurie Anderson, the owner, and CEO of Alexander Art. I’m passionate about helping people learn how to paint, and I genuinely believe everyone has a creative side just waiting to be unlocked.
One of the most rewarding things about being in the art world for over 35 years is seeing the joy and fulfillment of people learning to paint and unleashing their inner artists.

Our Company History
1970s-1980s
1970s-1980s
Bill Alexander starts Alexander Art™ as a distributor of art products and then transitions to becoming a manufacturer of paints and brushes.
1990
Bill Alexander's painting techniques and PBS television series "The Magic of Oil Painting" gain popularity, leading to the company's growth to around $5 million in revenue by 1990 teaching millions of people how to paint through the magic of television.

Alexander Art™ was sold to an investment group. The new owners mismanage the company, leading to its bankruptcy in 1994.
1999-2008
Laurie Anderson and a former customer in Portland, Oregon, acquire the company and rebuild it from scratch, focusing on selling art supplies and digitizing the company's educational content. In 2006 Alexandar Art™ transitions to an online-only business model.

Alexander Art™ partners with master artist Tom Anderson to create a comprehensive master class program, offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced level instruction.
2018-Present
Alexander Art™ shifts its focus to growing its YouTube channel, gaining over 140,000 subscribers, and helping millions worldwide discover the joy of oil painting.
